I’ll just pick one: John Locke, An essay Concerning human understanding. Chapter 11, verse 17
“I pretend not to teach, but to inquire, and therefore cannot but confess here again, that external and internal sensation are the only passages that I can find of knowledge to the understanding.”
I don’t know what that means. Perhaps he is trying to discribe his teaching method. Teaching himself as he teaches others. A very poetic writer. I would love to hear a really good insult from this guy. I bet he could leave his opponent wondering for years.
